USA Men’s National Championship, Day 3: Jariwala’s ton goes in vain

South Zone vs USA U19

A valiant effort of 111 off 97 balls from Rahul Jariwala went in vain as South Zone prevailed over USA U19s by 44 runs. Jariwala brought up his second hundred in his 3rd game of the tournament and briefly threatened to overhaul a chase of 295 almost single-handedly. He found little support from around him as the U19s were thwarted by spinners Amila Aponso and Steven Taylor. Earlier in the day, a whirlwind 94 from Hanchard Hamilton and a tenacious half century from Aaron Jones powered South Zone to 294. Hamilton and Jones added 138 for the 4th wicket after the U19s kept South Zone in check with timely strikes. USA U19s Ali Sheikh bagged a five-fer but the South Zone lower order chipped in with scores, with the target turning out to be too stiff off a chase.

Brief Scores: South Zone 294/7 in 50 overs (Hanchard Hamilton 94; Ali Sheikh 5-46) beat USA U19 250/10 in 46.5 overs (Rahul Jariwala 111; Steven Taylor 3-42)

Mid Atlantic Zone vs West Blue

Gauranshu Sharma’s sublime 75 off 83 balls backed up by vital contributions from Abhayjt Khangura and Raj Bhavsar saw Mid Atlantic edge past West Blue by 22 runs despite Marty Kain’s fighting 99. Ayan Desai and Shadley Van Schalkwyk snared 3 wickets each to stymie Mid Atlantic who were cruising at one point being 147 for 3 in the 34th over. Eyeing a total well over 250 at one stage, Mid Atlantic were restricted to 231. The Mid Atlantic breathed fire defending a small total. Justin Dill wrecked the Blues top order, leaving them in tatters at 32 for 3. Nisarg Patel and Marty Kain’s 115 run association kept the Blues in the hunt but the rest of the batsmen withered away after Raj Bhavsar provided the breakthrough as Kain kept battling along in a losing cause.

Brief Scores: Mid Atlantic Zone 231/10 in 48 overs (Gauranshu Sharma 75; Ayan Desai 3-25) beat West Blue 209/10 in 48.4 overs (Marty Kain 99; Raj Bhavsar 3-36)

South West Zone vs Mid West Zone

Sushant Modani and Willem Ludick starred with the bat to stitch a match-winning 4th wicket partnership of 142 to help South West amass 298. Modani top-scored for South West with a fine hundred off 110 balls while Ludick produced a cracking innings of 84 which included as many as 9 boundaries and 2 sixes. Ludick returned with the ball to help his side take further control of the proceedings, sending back Jeremiah Cuickshank in the first over of Mid West’s chase. Ludick rode the tide ending up bagging a 4 wicket haul as South West wrapped a tense 15 run win after Saad Ali’s masterful 92.

Brief Scores: South West Zone 298/6 in 50 overs (Sushant Modani 100; Joshua Kind 3-67) beat Mid West Zone 283/20 in 49.1 overs (Saad Ali 92; Willem Ludick 4-54)
