Pat Cummins mother dies after prolonged battle with illness

Maria Cummins, the mother of Australian captain Pat Cummins, lost her fight with a prolonged illness overnight on Thursday. The Australian athletes will wear black armbands on day two of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad as a sign of respect. The passing of Cummins’ mother was announced by Cricket Australia before the day of the match.

Cummins left for Sydney to visit his ailing mother after the second Test in Delhi ended. Given his mother’s condition at the time, Cummins was expected to return for the subsequent Indore Test but instead stayed at home as Steve Smith led the team in the third game. The same thing occurred before the fourth Test, which is currently taking place in Ahmedabad.

The three-match ODI series, which begins on March 17 in Mumbai, will, however, see Pat Cummins travel back to India.
