In the midst of BGT, BCCI provides an update on India batter Shreyas Iyer’s re-occurring back problem

Due to Shreyas Iyer’s withdrawal from the upcoming 4th Test match between the hosts and Australia on Monday, Team India has suffered a significant setback as the ICC World Test Championship final approaches. Iyer missed the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy owing to a back issue, after playing well in the longest format previous season. The opening innings of the fourth and final Test of the bilateral series at the Narendra Modi Stadium did not see Iyer coming out to bat for India.

Iyer, a middle-order batsman, made his comeback for the Delhi Test after missing the series opener owing to a back problem. Rajat Patidar had previously taken the role of the standout hitter during the ODI series against New Zealand. India, the hosts, has already successfully defended the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and Rohit’s team is almost certain to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship final.
